The Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation is the largest multi-facility, accredited, Regional Health Authority in New Brunswick serving a population of 200,000. It is comprised of 12 hospitals and health centres in communities in Southwestern New Brunswick, Canada, including Saint John, Sussex, St. Stephen and the beautiful Fundy Iles.
The Department of Family Medicine Teaching Unit was inaugurated in February 1973 and on July 1st the following year, a long history and tradition of teaching began with the Department's involvement in the Dalhousie Internship program.
On July 1st 2001 the Department of Family Medicine launched into a new era with the establishment of the Saint John based Family Medicine Residency Training Program. Not only has the tradition of training Family Medicine residents from other sites continued, but each year residents in the Saint John program complete their entire 2-year residency in Saint John. |
